Arts & Culture
Miami Shores and its environs have a lot going on for such a small town! The Miami Theater Center (MTC), is a beautiful and painstakingly renovated reminder of the glory days of standalone small town movie theaters. It opened in 1949 as the Shores Theater.
MTC is a not-for-profit theater and event venue located on NE 2nd Avenue in the heart of Miami Shores’ downtown district. Their highly regarded education programs inspire and engage young audiences of all ages and abilities, and their families. MTC offers the Miami Shores community a variety of new programs for kids and teens, including award winning film screenings and live-performances. MTC Theater Club provides an inspiring, creative theater experience on Saturday mornings, and MTC Musical Theater Camps help your future superstars write their very own musical theater plays under the guidance of talented teaching artists! For more information visit mtcmiami.org.
The Miami Shores Fine Arts Commission is an official board of Shores residents involved in putting on arts and cultural events throughout the year. Chaired by prominent Miami Shores leader Susan Ackley, the Commission puts on live musical concerts at the Memorial Park and at the Community Center, as well as art exhibits in Brockway Memorial Library and Village Hall. Their opening night receptions at Brockway feature complimentary wine and snacks and are well attended. They also coordinate the annual Photography Contest at Unity Day and many other events.
