Assess the direction of the Chamber in this challenging environment, ensuring that the mission is relevant and the organization meets the needs of the membership.

Utilize the expertise at Barry University to take a fresh look at what types of businesses will “work best” in a revitalized central business district and provide assistance to businesses and community development efforts in the greater Miami Shores area.

bullet

Upon receipt of the results from the Community Needs Assessment, ensure the development of programs and identify a mechanism -- a Miami Shores Coalition -- to provide a long-term commitment to area youth.

bullet

Continue to promote “Village Place at Miami Shores” with emphasis on attracting new tenants and promotion of local businesses.

bullet

Work with our schools to help them meet the needs of the community’s students and provide continued support for the programs of the Community Learning Partnership.

Police Officer of the Quarter/Year
Miami Shores Police Officer John Lee is honored as the Police Officer of the Year” for the Miami Shores Police Department . . . during one of the Chamber’s Second Wednesday Breakfast by 2007-2009 Chamber President Douglas Stokesberry, DMD.

Five times per year the Chamber gets to help recognize and honor the Miami Shores Police Department's "Police Officer of the Quarter" and "Police Officer of the Year."

At our Second Wednesday Breakfasts, we host the officer - who has been selected for the award by the senior staff at the Miami Shores Police Department - and present him or her with a plaque, recognizing their accomplishment, and a "goodie bag" from Chamber members.

Outstanding Student Awards
In May of each year, the "Outstanding Students" (from each of our area schools) are honored by the Greater Miami Shores Chamber.

Each participating school is asked to select a student - based on their own criteria - to be hosted by the Chamber at a special breakfast and presented with their award.  Students are selected for a variety of reasons, ranging from athletics or community service to academics or leadership abilities.
